Leading With Courage
Courage is the antidote to fear. Courage doesn’t mean the absence of fear. Courage propels you through fear. Courage requires clarity of thinking, the ability to keep focused on a greater goal when faced with difficult decisions. Courage provides confidence. Not bravado or cockiness, but quiet self-assurance in your values and vision. Courage promotes resilience, the ability to recover from setbacks. These are characteristics of real leadership.
Women lead differently. Although many hurdles have been overcome, executive women still face special challenges to integrate their core values and strengths at work, at home and in their social spheres of influence. For women, leadership is defined, applied and experienced differently. So is their courage. Now, more than ever before, executive women need to be prepared to empower others to move beyond fear to hope.
Your leadership in 2009. As an executive woman, you occupy a position of influence. In the months ahead, you will undoubtedly face difficult decisions about people and resources. At the same time, you desire support and opportunity to showcase your talents. How can you achieve personal and professional success in times of great uncertainty, stress and fear? Commit to leading with courage.
